House and Housing
A case study weekend house is in a dense forest in Kita-karizuawa. I designed a physical model based on an existing home in Japan. The house is a compact indoor space and a terrace for barbecues and gatherings. The case study helped me understand the reason for lifting the house to leave the tall trees untouched and turn the forest into a wall around the building. It was designed in a way to bring natural light inside the house. The roof has a window. Its view goes through the floor through the ground showing the hammock underneath the platform at night; artificial light comes from the ceiling lamp directly over the ground floor. The house has oversize and frameless windows. Also, each window has a different view of the mountains and treetops. Living and kitchen spaces are opened; only furniture separates each other, and small walls separate the bedroom and bathroom. Also, the roof is sloped.
